Description of the project
Works included the design and construction of a timber frame to the motel and steel structure to the Restaurant with piled foundations and ground beams,standing seam roofs to both with external timber wall cladding. High specification fit‑out of both to include extensive use of oak panelling, terrazzo wall and floor tiling. External works to comprise EV charging and feature courtyard.Construction of a 125 Bed Motel together with a separate Diner and associated 278 External works. The new three‑storey Hotel was of timber frame construction and a separate single storey Restaurant Diner of steel frame, including associated facilities, drainage, and external hard and soft landscaping. The external walls had a variety of Façade finishes including render, brick/ Rainscreen Cladding, complete with external signage.
Challenges included but not limited to :
Disruption caused by the unprecedented COVID‑19 Pandemic which required extremely careful planning and implementation of the strict rules to ensure safety.
Normal working practices had to be changed for example, some of several control measures introduced included a one-way system, temperature scanning of site personnel and providing COVID marshal’s to help police the rules.
The client had only constructed one previously in the UK, that had not been completed to their satisfaction and had encountered many problems therefore, thorough and continuous planning and client liaison was required to understand and achieve their frequently developing needs.
The site entrance was off a busy roundabout along the A4018 which meant for thorough controls of traffic management entering and leaving the site.
